Antonello Joseph Sarte Perez (February 17, 1993 – April 17, 2011) was a matinee idol, dancer, model, product endorser and actor.
AJ Perez was a member of ABS-CBN’s circle of homegrown talents collectively known as Star Magic. He was launched as a member of Star Magic Batch 13. He portrayed one of the lead characters in the 2009 miniseries “Your Song Presents: Underage”, “Your Song Presents: Boystown” and “Your Song Presents: Imposible.” His TV appearances included ASAP, Abt Ur Luv, Wansapanataym, Agua Bendita and Showtime and as a guest in some ABS-CBN shows. He teamed-up with Lauren Young in the television series Lobo. He was also known as a member of the all-male dance group “Gigger Boys.”
And most importantly, He was launched in leading man status starring opposite Jessy Mendiola in the recently concluded soap opera “Sabel.”
He made a total of 10 movies starting off with the MMFF box-office hit of 2006, “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” and reprised his role as Otap in the sequel “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo” in 2007. His third film was also an MMFF entry in 2007, “Bahay Kubo.” In 2008, he has done “Magkaibigan” and “Kelly! Kelly! (Ang Hit na Musical).” In 2009, he appeared in 2 Ai Ai delas Alas movies, “BFF (Best Friends Forever)” and “Ang Tanging Pamilya: A Marry Go Round.” He made 3 films in 2010, “Babe, I Love You”, “Cinco” and his last big screen appearance was “Mamarazzi.”
He landed his first commercial with Globe and was later cast in the UFC commercial, popularizing the phrase “ye-bah!”. His Milo TV commercial showcased his basketball skills.
Before his death, AJ finished shooting an episode for “Maalaala Mo Kaya” which is touted as his most challenging role so far. The said episode is set to air on April 30, 2011 (2 weeks from now).
